Double national record by Kyriakopoulou

Nicole Kyriakopoulou has broken the pole vault national record twice within a week, taking it to 4.71 meters in London on August 5.

The Greek champion, who has qualified for this month?s World Championship in South Korea, cleared 4.70 meters in the national championship in Athens in end-July, and promised in tears to do even better very soon.

At the IAAF Diamond League final in London she did just that. The 25-year old registered the sixth best performance in the world this year clearing 4.71 m. with the third effort, to finish fourth.

In the women?s triple jump Voula Papachristou also finished fourth, but her best effort at 14.17 m. was far behind her personal best of 14.72 m.
