Filippidis vaults to sixth in the world

Costas Filippidis came sixth in the world in Daegu on August 29 after equaling his own national record of 5.75 meters in the men’s pole vault final, in what was the best moment in his career so far.

The Greek champion cleared 5.50 meters with the first attempt and 5.65m with the second, before equaling the record he had registered six years ago in Turkey.

He then tried for a medal but failed in all his attempts at 5.85m, to end up sixth in the World Championship.

Meanwhile, Nicole Kyriakopoulou, who has reached the final in the women’s pole vault, may not be able to compete on August 30.

The Greek record holder has suffered from a high temperature from before the qualifier, when she cleared 4.55m, and felt worse afterwards, so it is doubtful whether she will be able to participate in the final on Tuesday afternoon Greek time.
