Chondrokoukis is Greece’s track-and-field diamond

Greek high jump champion Dimitris Chondrokoukis won gold at the Weltklasse IAAF Diamond League meeting in Zurich on September 8.

Chondrokoukis cleared 2.32 meters on his second attempt, equaling his personal record.

One week earlier he had finished fifth at the World Championship in Daegu, South Korea, again with a 2.32-meter jump.

With his Zurich performance, Chondrokoukis has become the first Greek ever to win gold at the world’s most prominent track-and-field meeting, earning $10,000.

Another Greek, women’s pole vault champion Nicole Kyriakopoulou, had been supposed to take part in the Weltklasse too, but was sidelined by injury during the warmup.
