Gripping games in the A1 league

Olympiakos and Kolossos Rhodes are joint top of the A1 division after the fourth round of games after their victories this weekend, while Panathinaikos did not play.

However the surprise results of the round were the losses by Thessaloniki giants PAOK and Aris to Panionios and KAO Dramas.

Olympiakos recovered from its Euroleague loss at Cantu to defeat visiting Peristeri 92-65 on November 13 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus.

Kolossos did it the hard way on November 12, dismissing host Ikaros Kallitheas 93-84 and showing that it is a credible top-four candidate.

Kavala rose to third with a close win over visiting Rethymno. The final score (60-57) shows the game could have gone either way, but the home advantage was what mattered in the end.

Panionios is level on points with Kavala after seeing off PAOK at Thessaloniki thanks to some good defense, as the 58-51 final score illustrates.

But the most exciting game of the weekend was that between KAO Dramas and Aris. Playing in front of a capacity crowd of 2,000 fans of both sides, the game produced some gripping basketball that had everyone, including TV viewers, on the edge of their seats.

Eventually, new boys KAOD scored a memorable 84-81 win, their first this season, which has lifted them up to eighth spot. Aris remains without a win.

Finally, Ilissiakos showed what a diehard team it is, beating Maroussi 62-60 at home on Saturday.
