Olympiakos, Atromitos make cup semis

Olympiakos recovered on Wednesday from its 1-0 league loss at Xanthi on Sunday to beat visiting Panionios and advance to the last four of the Greek Cup, while Atromitos upset favorite PAOK to qualify in extra time at Toumba.

Marko Pantelic led Olympiakos to a 4-0 win by scoring twice, while Diogo and Djamel Abdoun were also on target.

A number of Olympiakos fans, however, chose to jeer some of the players and coach Ernesto Valverde at the start of the game over the defeat at Xanthi.

Atromitos escaped elimination to PAOK at Thessaloniki in the 90th minute as Sokratis Fytanidis’s extraordinary lob canceled out Lino’s goal for PAOK from the penalty spot in the first half.

The Peristeri club then went on to win the knockout tie with a 2-1 score through Brito’s strike in the first minute of extra time.

In the semifinals Olympiakos will face the winner of the OFI-Panserraikos tie, while Atromitos will meet the team to emerge from the Asteras Tripolis-Kerkyra quarterfinal. The other two ties will be played on February 22.
