Greens win in Crete to stay top

Panathinaikos retained its two-point lead over Olympiakos on the soccer table after defeating Ergotelis 2-0 in Crete on Saturday.

Goals by Simao Mate Junior and Haris Mavrias early in the second half gave the Greens victory before a set of three hot matches with PAOK, AEK and Olympiakos.

The Reds had Jean Makoun and Diogo to thank for their 2-0 home win over Panionios on Sunday, as the hosts shook off their high number of absences.

The Thessaloniki derby between PAOK and Aris ended goalless although the home team struck the woodwork twice.

There were also victories for Asteras Tripolis (1-0 at Xanthi), Kerkyra (3-1 over Doxa), Atromitos (2-1 at PAS Giannina) and Levadiakos (2-0 at Panetolikos).

The results mean that Asteras has soared to the seventh spot and Levadiakos has climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time this season, spelling trouble for out-of-form Panetolikos.

The match between AEK and OFI was postponed on the police?s request due to fears that AEK fans would cause trouble as the match would have been played behind closed doors owing to AEK?s failure to receive tax clearance to issue tickets.

There will also be no action in the coming weekend as the Super League protests a new sports law.
