Panathinaikos slipped up at home against Atromitos on Wednesday, conceding a draw and allowing PAOK, victor over AEK at Thessaloniki, to close the gap to two points from the Greens at the start of the Super League playoffs, whose winner goes to the Champions League qualifiers.
Atromitos took a 1-1 draw at the Olympic Stadium having led after just four minutes courtesy of a Pitu Garcia opener following a concentration lapse by the host’s defense.
Panathinaikos improved its game in the second half and equalized through Spanish striker Toche in the 54th minute after a poor clearance by the Atromitos defense from a Lazaros Christodoulopoulos shot.
PAOK left it late to beat AEK at home, but managed to grab a precious 1-0 win thanks to a goal by Giorgos Georgadis three minutes from time.
The results mean that Panathinaikos leads the mini-table with five points, PAOK has three, Atroimitos has one and AEK has no points.
