Olympiakos comes from behind to beat Arsenal
Two goals within 10 minutes in the second half saw Olympiakos beat Arsenal 2-1 on Tuesday in their last group game for the Champions League, a result that has placed the Reds among the seeded teams for the Round of 32 in the Europa League.
A full-strength Olympiakos faced a depleted Arsenal at the Karaiskakis stadium and deprived it of the top spot in the group by fighting back from 1-0 down at half-time, to finish third with nine points from six games.
The Reds were second best in the first half, with the Premier League side asking several questions at the Roy Carroll goal and scoring in the 38th minute through a shot by unmarked Tomas Rosicky from the edge of the box after a Gervinho pass.
The second half started in a similar fashion, but the introduction of Spanish midfielder David Fuster transformed the game for the Greek champion.
Almost immediately, Yiannis Maniatis capitalized on an Arsenal defensive error to equalize in the 64th and Costas Mitroglou scored a spectacular goal with a swerving shot from a distance in the 73rd, one minute after his introduction as a substitute.
This was the third time that Olympiakos has hosted Arsenal in the last game of a Champions League group and has scored as many victories.
