Reds march on in Euroleague with win at Zagreb
Olympiakos had another emphatic performance away from home for the Euroleague on Thursday, thrashing host Cedevita Zagreb 84-62 in Croatia.
This was the seventh win in nine games for the European champion who will wait for the result of Zalgiris Kaunas at Emporio Armani Milano on Friday to see whether it will climb to the top of the group, with one game left to play.
After a rather slow start to the game, the Greeks pegged the Croats with their great game in attack, leading 21-18 after the first period and 40-37 at half-time.
The Reds ran away with it in the third period advancing by 16 after 30 minutes (64-48) to stroll to an easy finish to the game against a team that had given them a really hard time at home a few weeks ago.
Vassilis Spanoulis, with 14 points, was seconded by Stratos Perperoglou with 12, Giorgos Printezis with 11 and Kyle Hines with 10.
The Reds’ last game in this first group stage of the competition is against Milano at home.
Meanwhile former Panathinaikos forward Mike Batiste, who now plays for Fenerbahce Ulker of Turkey, was arrested for tax debts to the Greek state upon his arrival in Athens with the Turkish squad ahead of Friday’s game with Panathinaikos. Reports said he was due to spend the night in captivity.
