Kapono’s winning debut with Panathinaikos

NBA veteran Jason Kapono had a promising debut in Greek basketball, helping Panathinaikos climb to the second spot of the league table beating Panionios 75-61 on Wednesday.

The three-pointer expert, who has won the NBA title with the Miami Heat, scored five points — including one three-pointer at the end of the first half — in the 12 minutes he played for at the Olympic Sports Hall.

Panionios gave Panathinaikos a good run for its money leading 11-8 at the start of the game and bouncing back from 42-25 down at half-time to trail 58-52 early in the fourth period.

Yet the Greens were not to be denied. Led by Stephane Lasme, who scored 20 points, they secured their eighth win in 10 games in the league and are level on points with Panionios and PAOK in second.
