Olympics tickets may be on sale at venues

Athens 2004, the Olympic Games organizers, announced yesterday that leftover tickets will be sold at Olympic venues during the 2004 Games. «Until the end of the Games, as long as there is one ticket available in whatever sport,» it will be offered for sale, Marton Simitsek, one of Athens 2004’s executive directors, said. The deadline for applications for tickets is June 12. In July, bookings will be confirmed by mail. A second round of ticket sales will be held from September 15, 2003 to February 29, 2004, when anyone who participated in the first round can purchase more tickets. That round will be opened up to first-time buyers on Oct. 1, 2003. By March 2004, organizers intend to have a completed plan at all venues and will begin seating arrangements. Ordered tickets will be distributed by June 2004. Also yesterday, senior International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials praised Athens 2004 for overcoming delays but promised to keep a close eye on preparations. «Each time we come, we realize how much progress has been made since the last visit… We are very confident that we’ll have wonderful Games. We’ll have magical Games,» IOC chief overseer Denis Oswald said. Oswald made the remarks during a media briefing attended by representatives of news agencies and newspapers around the world. Joining Oswald were IOC Vice President Kevan Gosper and Sports Director Gilbert Felli. (AP)
