Poor Reds fall prey to Maccabi shooting excellence

An unexpectedly poor Olympiakos suffered a home loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv on Friday that makes its passage to the Euroleague playoffs uncertain.

The Israelis won 73-67 in Piraeus thanks to a great night for its shooting guards whom Olympiakos was unable to contain.

Maccabi led from start to finish, building its lead in the first half (41-23) and weathering the Olympiakos comeback in the third period that was the Reds’ only good spell in the game.

The result, along with Siena’s surprise loss at Besiktas, complicates things in the group, as Olympiakos can finish anywhere between second and fifth. The top four qualify to the quarterfinals.

Vassilis Spanoulis scored 19 points for the European champion, with Acie Law adding another 10.

Coach Giorgos Batzokas certainly expects more from his American players Doron Perkins and Josh Powell than what he is getting at the moment.
