Poor night for Olympiakos in Istanbul

Olympiakos will have to try again on Friday to grab its third victory over Anadolu Efes in Istanbul as the Turkish side beat the European champion 83-72 on Wednesday to cut the Reds’ lead to 2-1 in this best-of-five Euroleague quarterfinal series.

The Greeks were a shadow of their usual selves, especially in the second half, as they were uncharacteristically error-prone and suffered significantly in rebounds.

Despite the solid game that Acie Law had, scoring 19 points for the Reds, the players of coach Giorgos Bartzokas were unable to follow their hosts on the night, trailing 37-29 at half-time and 65-50 after the third period.

A comeback effort in the fourth period proved too little, too late for Olympiakos as Efes had Jordan Farmar and Dusko Savanovic on fire, as well as enjoying the noisy support of its fans.

Captain Vassilis Spanoulis had a particularly poor game, with just four points, five turnovers and 0/5 three-pointers.
