PAOK to face Schalke as court rejects Metalist appeal

The Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Friday refused to reinstate Metalist Kharkiv in the Champions League, clearing the way for PAOK to face Germany’s Schalke in the playoff round.

The court turned down the Ukrainian club’s request to freeze its expulsion by UEFA for match fixing while an appeal proceeds.

The Thessaloniki team, which was beaten by Metalist in the previous round, will face Schalke in the first leg next Wednesday.
