Sweden was no match for Greece in Eurobasket

The national basketball team enjoyed a solid start to its Eurobasket campaign in Slovenia on Wednesday thrashing Sweden 79-51 at Koper and showing it can meet the high standards its fans have set for it.

The players of Andrea Trinchieri produced some entertaining basketball that will have the game’s TV highlights brimming with spectacular action.

After a slow start to the game that saw the Swedish lead 8-2 and 11-6, Greece imposed its game and scored a partial 19-2 to lead 25-13 and take an 18-point advantage at half-time (39-21), with Yiannis Bourousis scoring 12 points before getting substituted.

In the second half Sweden was clearly no match for Greece, as the white-and-blues stretched their lead to as many as 35 points (79-44) toward the end to seal victory by 28 in the end.

Vassilis Spanoulis edged out Bourousis in scoring as he notched up 13 points, while Loukas Mavrokefalidis had eight points and nine rebounds. Notably, all 12 Greece players got onto the scoresheet of the game.

In its second group game Greece will face Russia on Thursday evening (10 p.m. Greek time).
