Reds come from 12 down to beat Malaga

Olympiakos came from 12 points down to beat visiting Unicaja Malaga 69-61 in its opening game for this season’s Euroleague on Friday. This was the fifth victory for the Reds in as many competitive games this season in four different competitions.

The title holder made its home advantage at the Peace and Friendship Stadium tell, avoiding a slip-up at the start of the first group stage of Europe’s top club competition.

In a game of low scoring but with a good pace, the Spaniards dominated the first half (which ended 33-26) and stretched their lead to 38-26 one minute into the third period.

Yet after trailing 45-35, Olympiakos improved its game considerably frustrating the visitors in attack and often finding an open court to score easy points at. It led 62-51 before settling for an eight-point win in the end.

Brent Petway made the difference for Olympiakos with 13 points (including three out of four three-pointers) plus four rebounds, while Vassilis Spanoulis notched up the same number of points.
