Olympiakos takes driving seat after win in Turkey

Olympiakos produced an emphatic win at Galatasaray with an 78-67 score on Thursday to make it two out of two in the first group stage of the Euroleague.

The Piraeus giant played its best game since the start of the season at a very challenging court in Turkey, and is already the hot favorite to win the group having defeated one of its main opponents away from home.

The Reds were far superior in the first half, leading by up to 16 points (38-22) and ending the second period 12 points ahead (42-30). Vassilis Spanoulis and Brent Petway led the European champion to an impressive performance in attack.

A solid third period saw Galatasaray cut the deficit and even lead for a few seconds (57-56) before Olympiakos edged ahead at the end of the quarter (59-57).

A considerably improved defense and consecutive three-pointers in the last period by Stratos Perperoglou and Giorgos Printezis served to silence the home crowd of 12,000 fans that also included Galatasaray soccer star Didier Drogba.

Spanoulis notched up 18 points, Matt Lojeski 15, while Petway scored 11 with 3/3 free throws, 1/1 two-pointer and 2/2 three-pointers.
