Olympiakos short of players ahead of Milano clash
Olympiakos is facing serious selection problems ahead of this week’s crucial Euroleague encounter with Armani Milano in Piraeus, as after the injury to Vassilis Spanoulis, Costas Perperoglou and Giorgos Printezis also picked up some light injuries in the Reds’ 76-67 victory at Patra over local Apollon on Monday.
Furthermore Olympiakos has let US forward Jamario Moon go after just five games with the European champion, with center Mirza Begic also set to leave in the coming days according to reports.
The Reds remained three points behind leader Panathinaikos who strolled to a 71-59 victory against visiting Aris on Sunday, in a game where coach Giorgos Pedoulakis afforded the luxury to rest some of his key players.
Panionios returned to winning ways with an 87-73 win at bottom club Ilisiakos that is now in deep relegation trouble, given also the 83-81 home win that Ikaros scored at Halkida over Nea Kifissia, with 28 points by man-of-the-match Yiannis Gagaloudis.
Ikaros is now one point ahead of Ilisiakos, and level with Panelefsiniakos that lost 85-69 at AGO Rethymnou.
The weekend’s best game was probably that between Kolossos and KAO Dramas on Rhodes, which the Drama side won 76-70. PAOK braved the strong challenge by Trikala BC to win 82-77 at home.
The league will now take a week’s break as the All Star Game is scheduled for March 8-9 at Hania, Crete.
