Greens and Reds dig deep to win in league

The return to the nitty gritty of the Greek league proved very demanding for Panathinaikos and Olympiakos, as they struggled to beat their opposition on Tuesday, just four days after the elimination from the Euroleague.

AGO Rethymnou troubled Panathinaikos in Athens for the first three quarters of the game, but Dimitris Diamantidis led the Greens to a 76-61 victory in the end.

Olympiakos faced the stiff opposition of Nea Kifissia away and eventually won by eight points (75-67) as it was still smarting from handing over it sEuropean trophy.

The rest of the games ofthe penultimate round of the regular season took place five days earlier, with Ilisiakos and Ikaros Halkidas retaining their hopes for a miracle in the end to keep them up.

Ilisiakos scored a remarkable 78-77 win at home over PAOK and Ikaros overcame Kolossos Rhodes with a 96-88 score, as the two strugglers are now level on points with Panelefsiniakos that went down 81-68 at KAO Dramas. If Panelefsiniakos beats Nea Kifissia at home in the remaining round of games, Ilisiakos and Ikaros will go down.

In other games last Thursday, Aris thrashed Trikala 88-57 and Panionikos saw off Apollon Patras 79-47.
