Katsikaris unveiled as new Greece basketball coach
Fotis Katsikaris is officially the new national basketball team coach and will lead Greece to the World Championship that will take place this summer in Spain.
The Greek coach is taking over from Italian Andrea Trinchieri, the Hellenic Basketball Federation announced on Wednesday, with the announcement being delayed for a few months due to the problems in the termination of the Italian’s contract.
“It goes without saying that this constitutes an honor for me, as well as a challenge,” stated Katsikaris.
The 47-year-old has previously coached AEK, Dynamo St Petersburg, Valencia, Aris and Bilbao Basket.
The first problem he has to deal with is the threat by Olympiakos not to allow its players to participate in the Greece camp alleging that they do not enjoy full insurance cover by the federation.
