Bayer Leverkusen and Greece defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos is out until the end of the year with a shoulder injury.
The Bundesliga club says Papadopoulos had an operation late Monday. He was injured in the final practice before the team’s departure for the Champions League match against Zenit St. Petersburg.
Papadopoulos has been plagued by injuries in the past two years. He was sent on loan to Leverkusen from Schalke, where he made only four appearances last season.
A knee injury in November 2012 required an operation, and then he had problems with the other knee, groin and shoulder. He had another shoulder injury at the start of this season but returned two weeks ago and scored two goals in his first two matches.
