Olympiakos has all but won its Euroleague group

Olympiakos strolled to its seventh win in eight Euroleague games defeating Lithuanian champion Neptunas Klaipeda with an 89-79 score in Piraeus on Friday.

The two teams played a free-flowing basketball that allowed for a relatively high score, with the first half ending 47-36 and the host retaining its lead without any problems in the second half.

Reducing its turnovers to a minimum, Olympiakos held Neptunas to a distance ranging from nine to 16 points in the last quarter, to banish the memories from the poor performance at Laboral Kutxa a week earlier.

Brent Petway scored 20 points to top the Reds’ scoring chart, while Vassilis Spanoulis scored 13, collected five rebounds, distributed nine assists and earned nine fouls in a great all-around performance.

The result means that Olympiakos will definitely finish in the top two of its group, which means it will likely avoid Panathinaikos in the next group stage as the Greens will likely end up third in their pool.

Victory over Red Star Belgrade at home next week will seal the top spot for Olympiakos.
