Below-par Olympiakos succumbs to Efes

The winning streak of Olympiakos in the second group stage of the Euroleague ended on Thursday in Turkey, as Anadolu Efes outclassed the Reds in the second half to win 84-70.

Olympiakos had the upper hand for most of the first half, which it finished on top (40-37), but the Turkish defense, well prepared by former Olympiakos coach Dusan Ivkovic, strangled the Greek attack on a bad night for Olympiakos captain Vassilis Spanoulis: The Reds’ guard notched up just two points, with 0/6 field goals.

Othello Hunter was the top scorer for the Greek team with 12 points, while former Olympiakos player Stratos Perperoglou scored eight points for Efes.

The result leaves Olympiakos on a 4-1 record and on the second spot of the table.

However the Greek colors were better represented on Thursday by former Greece forward Sofoklis Schortsanitis, who scored 17 points on the night to lead holder Maccabi Tel Aviv to a 90-86 home win over Real Madrid.

On Wednesday PAOK suffered a 102-68 drabbing at the hands of Khimki in Russia for the Eurocup.
