Panathinaikos preserves perfect home record

After yet another great performance at home, Panathinaikos defeated Galatasaray 86-77 in Athens on Friday to get to three wins in five games at the Euroleague top-16.

The Greek champion shook off its absences (Nikos Pappas, Lazaros Mavrokefalidis, AJ Slaughter) and produced a spectacular performance in the first 25 minutes of the game to take the contest beyond its Turkish visitor.

The game was spectacular at times as the two teams offered fans at the Olympic Sports Hall plenty of top-quality action that resembled an all-star game, with slam dunks, alley hoops etc.

The Greens’ lead soared to 15 points at half-time (42-27) and even reached up to 25 points in the third period (57-32).

Int last quarter the Panathinaikos defense was more relaxed to concede 31 points, although the margin of victory may count come the end of the 14-game mini-league.

Janis Blooms scored a Euroleague career record of 16 points to lead Panathinaikos’s scorers on the night.

The Greens have also signed Gani Lawal from Trabzonspor, but he can start playing from the second half of the top-16, i.e. from mid-February.
