Poor showing for Reds at Barcelona

Barcelona proved too strong for Olympiakos in Game 1 of their Euroleague play-off series as the Catalans won 73-57 on Wednesday and have the upper hand in this pair.

The major problem Olympiakos had in rebounds throughout the game and the terrible last seven minutes in the first period for the Reds contributed to an easy win for the hosts who did not feel the threat of the Greeks at any point of the game after the third minute.

Barcelona went from 6-5 down to 20-8 up at the end of the first quarter and never looked back since. The half-time score was 35-26 and the Catalans maintained their comfortable lead throughout the second half as the Reds appeared to save their strength for Game 2 that is scheduled for Friday in Barcelona.

Contributing in the poor showing of the Greeks was the… ghost of captain Vassilis Spanoulis; upon his return from injury the Greece guard had 0/4 field goals and just one point in 11 minutes.

There was not a single Olympiakos player to reach double digits in his scoring. Dimitris Agravanis notched up nine.
