Grabbing the shoes that have gone a long way

Greek Marathon legend Maria Polyzou is calling on everyone to join her in her charity run at the Dusseldorf Marathon on Sunday, April 26, by bidding for her special shoes she will race in and then donate to the cause of feeding the needy in Greece.

The Greek Marathon champion and record holder – also famous for becoming the only woman known to have completed the Pheidippides Feat (running 524 km from Athens to Sparta and back) in 2010 – is putting her shoes, in the light blue and white colors of Greece, up for an online auction as of Friday, April 24.

Proceedings will go toward the cause of the Boroume charity, that works against food waste and for the purpose of supporting food donations via local authorities and other networks for the people in need.

Maria and the team she has created, “Marathon Team Greece by Maria Polyzou”, actively and dynamically support the cause of the Boroume NGO and go a long way, 42,195 meters to be precise, toward helping combatting poverty in crisis-stricken Greece.

Furthermore Maria will gift her special Marathon Team Greece shirt she will race in at Dusseldorf to Marilena Gerogianni, for the message of life that the young Greek conveys while racing in her wheelchair with the support of her father.

Therefore Maria will race at Dusseldorf on Sunday for all Greeks, bringing her special shoes and shirt to the finish line of the Marathon before donating them for the noble causes that the Greek champion has chosen.
