Over 18,000 runners participate in the Athens Half Marathon

The 4th Athens Half Marathon was an unqualified organizing and sporting success on Sunday, as thousands of runners joined in the race of the 21-kilometers and the 3k and 5k runs in the capital’s city center.

The fabulous weather conditions and the coincidence of a working day for stores on the first Sunday of May made for a great event in Athens that several foreigners also enjoyed, not only as spectators but also as runners.

The participation of over 18,000 runners is a record for the event that is growing every year.

Michalis Parmakis won the men’s 21k race clocking 1 hour 12 minutes and 2 seconds, followed by Greek Marathon champion Giorgos Menis 33 seconds later.

Sofia Riga won the women’s race with a time of 1:21.58, ahead of Magda Gazea (1:22.04).
