Olympiakos lets lead evaporate

Last-placed Ionikos, playing away, provided the major upset in the Greek first division’s ninth round by recovering from an early two-goal deficit yesterday to hold frontrunner Olympiakos to a 2-2 draw. Giovani scored in the 3rd and 20th minutes for Olympiakos. Gabriel Letieri made it 2-1 in the 42nd and Nikos Froussos equalized in the 87th. Olympiakos failed to bolster its two-point lead in the league following second-placed Panathinaikos’s surprise 0-0 draw against first division debutante Halkidona on Saturday. Also on Saturday, AEK moved up to 5th place with a 3-1 win over PAOK. In other games yesterday: Egaleo-Panionios, 0-0; Xanthi-Paniliakos, 2-1; Kallithea-Akratitos, 2-2; OFI-Proodeftiki, 1-0; and Aris-Iraklis, 0-0.
