Giovanni seals it for Olympiakos

razilian striker Giovanni opened the scoring and set up a further two goals for Olympiakos in its 3-1 away win against Iraklis yesterday. The result maintains the front runner’s two-point lead in the first division ahead of next weekend’s big match against second-placed Panathinaikos. Despite dominating its game against Aris, Panathinaikos registered a modest 1-0 victory, for a record 15th consecutive home win in domestic competition. Third-placed PAOK kept in touch with the leaders with a 1-0 away win over the league’s bottom-placed side, Ionikos, as did the season’s surprise package, Aegaleo, with a 2-1 away win over Xanthi. AEK recovered from a two-goal deficit to thrash Akratitos 7-2 away. After 10 rounds of play, Olympiakos, the defending champion, leads with 25 points. Panathinaikos, second on 23 points, lies three points ahead of both PAOK and Aegaleo. AEK is fifth on 18 points. In other round 10 games, it was: Panionios-Halkidona, 0-0; Paniliakos-OFI, 1-1; and Proodeftiki-Kallithea, 1-1. Giovanni opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. He then set up midfielders Giorgos Georgiadis in the 49th minute, and Predrag Djordjevic, in the 70th, for a 3-0 lead. Iraklis defender Giorgos Xenidis made it 3-1 in the 82nd.
