Vassilis Tsiartas…

Vassilis Tsiartas scored the only goal, a penalty, for AEK’s 1-0 win over Iraklis in yesterday’s Greek Cup first-leg quarterfinal match. AEK, a pre-season league title contender now struggling in sixth place, will need to defend last night’s modest score at home in a return leg, on March 17, for a semifinal berth toward the team’s only chance for a title this year. Olympiakos and third-division club Kastoria are already through to the semifinals. To get there, Panathinaikos must rebound from a shock 1-0 away defeat from second-division side Patraikos, also on March 17.
