Angelis to be first torchbearer of Pyeongchang’s Olympic Flame

Greek cross country ski champion Apostolos Angelis will be the first torchbearer after the Lighting of the Olympic Flame on October 24 at Ancient Olympia, the Hellenic Olympic Committee announced on Tuesday.

On October 31, after a week of torch-bearing around the country, Greece will deliver the Olympic Flame to the organizing committee of the 2018 Winter Olympics that will take place in February at Pyeongchang in South Korea.

Angelis, the 24-year-old Balkans champion who has already clinched a spot in Pyeongchang, will give the Flame to former Manchester United soccer player Park Ji-Sung, the second torchbearer.
