Second-division Trikala holds Super League leader in Cup

There were no major upsets in the second round of group stage games for the Greek Cup in midweek, as the Super League giants successfully negotiated the challenge from second-division opponents away from home, some in easier fashion than others.

The most notable results came on Thursday, when Super League leader Atromitos was held at Trikala to a 1-1 draw, and Platanias Hanion lost to Cretan rival OFI 1-0 at Iraklio.

Holder PAOK needed a late Robert Mak strike to beat host Apollon Kalamarias 1-0, while last year’s finalist AEK thrashed Apollon Larissas 7-0 away.

Olympiakos defeated Acharnaikos at the neutral ground of Nikaia with a 3-0 score on Wednesday, and Panathinaikos needed a late winner by Guillermo Molins to beat Anagennisi 2-1 at rainy Karditsa on Tuesday.

In other games the results were Levadiakos 5 Aiginiakos 0, Ergotelis 2 Xanthi 4, Panaitolikos 2 Panserraikos 0, Aris 1 Panionios 2, Lamia 1 Kallithea 0, Kerkyra 6 Sparti 1, Asteras Tripolis 2 Kissamikos 1, PAS Giannina 3 Panaigialios 0, and Larissa 3 Panachaiki 0.
