Top three all in contention

Costas Katsouranis converted a penalty to help AEK salvage a 1-1 draw against Olympiakos on Sunday and leave the Greek first-division title race wide open. Cyprus striker Yiannis Okkas gave Olympiakos the lead in the 19th minute and Katsouranis equalized in the 71st. After 22 rounds, both Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, which played to a 0-0 home draw against Iraklis on Saturday, continued to head the standings with 46 points, one ahead of AEK. Olympiakos leads on goal difference. In other results on Sunday, it was: Halkidona 2, Xanthi 1; Aegaleo 1, Kerkyra 0; Aris 3, OFI 2; Ergotelis 0, PAOK 1; and Kallithea 0, Ionikos 0. After Okkas opened the scoring for Olympiakos off a perfect pass from Predrag Djordjevic, AEK had its first scoring chance in the 34th when Alexandre Soares broke free down the right but his low cross darted across the goal mouth. Playing before empty seats, as punishment for fan violence in another league game, Olympiakos wasted more chances through Grigoris Georgatos and Okkas as it continued to dominate after the interval. AEK goalkeeper Dionysis Hiotis denied Giovanni on two occasions in the 49th and 52nd, while in the 63rd a shot by the Brazilian went over the bar with only the ‘keeper to beat. The host paid for the missed opportunities when Katsouranis leveled for the visitors from the spot. (AP)
