Giannakopoulos set to extend his deal with Bolton

Bolton Wanderers player Stelios Giannakopoulos told local radio yesterday that he was close to renewing his contract with the formidable English club, currently placed fifth in the Premier League. The Greek international’s current contract expires at the end of this season. Giannakopoulos, who moved to Bolton Wanderers from Olympiakos two seasons ago, told Athens radio station SuperSport FM that it was simply a matter of time before the two negotiating sides struck a deal. No details were disclosed. «We’re on track. There’s good intention on both sides and the issue will be settled within the next couple of weeks,» said Giannakopoulos, who has made headlines in more recent times as a scorer for Bolton Wanderers. «The goals I’ve scored over the past three to four months have boosted my reputation further and provided increased exposure,» added Giannakopoulos, who has scored six times with Bolton Wanderers this season. He is also a key member of Greece’s national team, which, incidentally, climbed two notches to 12th place in FIFA’s world rankings yesterday. It is the national team’s highest place since the ranking system was introduced in 1993. Brazil remained in top spot.
