Outjumped, eliminated
Christos Meletoglou, sixth at last year’s Olympics, failed to qualify yesterday for the triple-jump final at the 10th World Athletics Championships, staged in Helsinki. Competing in rainy conditions, he managed just 16.35 meters in his group, well behind their last qualifier, who jumped 16.66 meters. Costas Zalagitis, with a season best of 17.29 meters, far better than Meletoglou’s 16.74, could manage only 15.72 meters, finishing dead last.
