Greece’s squad strikes out
AMSTERDAM (AP) – Greece pulled out of the baseball World Cup yesterday and will be replaced by the Czech Republic. The reason for Greece’s withdrawal less than a day before the start of the 18-team tournament was not immediately known, said tournament spokesman George Presburg. «We’re happy to have a replacement,» Presburg said. «It was a great job from the organizers to secure participation of another team at such short notice.» The Netherlands faces China in the tournament opener today. The World Cup features mostly amateurs or players on reserve squads of professional clubs.
