Olympiakos’s record 16th straight win
Olympiakos won its 16th straight game yesterday, a new league record, at home against Apollon Kalamaria with a 2-1 victory. The previous record, also held by Olympiakos, stood for over three decades. The Piraeus club needed to survive a late onslaught from Apollon Kalamaria, which narrowed to 2-1 in the 77th minute and pressured to equalize. Olympiakos, 12 points ahead with seven rounds remaining, took the lead in the 17th minute and scored a second in the 58th. On Saturday, a 65th-minute header by Greece striker Dimitris Papadopoulos gave Panathinaikos a 1-0 win over PAOK in Thessaloniki. The Athens club is locked in battle with AEK for second place and a Champions League berth next season. AEK, playing yesterday, beat Panionios 2-0. The pair shares second place, with 51 points apiece. In other games, it was: Aegaleo-Atromitos, 0-1; Levadiakos-Iraklis, 0-1; Akratitos-Kallithea, 1-0; and OFI-Ionikos, 3-0.
