Panathinaikos grabs points at Kalamaria

Panathinaikos stayed equal second in Greek soccer’s first division with a valuable 1-0 away win against Apollon Kalamaria in Thessaloniki last night. Earlier yesterday, AEK, which shares second spot with Panathinaikos, had defeated Akratitos 2-0 at home. With several rounds of play remaining, AEK and Panathinaikos are fighting for second place and a Champions League berth next season. Defending champion Olympiakos has broken away at the top with a seemingly invincible lead. The Piraeus club completes Round 25 tonight when it hosts Atromitos. On Saturday Larissa and Iraklis played a scoreless draw and PAOK defeated Kallithea 2-1 at home. In yesterday’s other games, it was: Levadiakos-Aegaleo, 2-1; OFI-Panionios, 1-1; and Ionikos-Xanthi, 0-0.
