Ionikos surprises Panathinaikos with away win
Ionikos scored the upset in the second round of Super League soccer games, beating powerhouse Panathinaikos 2-0 away on Saturday. A blunder by Croatian keeper Mario Galinovic gave Ionikos the lead in the first half following a Giorgos Xenidis shot, with Nigerian Benjamin Onwuachi adding the second in the 70th minute. Champions League contender AEK failed again to grab its first win, drawing 1-1 in Crete with OFI yesterday. The visitors led with Andrija Delibasic in his debut, but OFI’s Joseph Nwafor equalized 16 minutes from time. PAOK beat crosstown rivals Iraklis Thessaloniki 3-1 at home thanks to a Marcin Mieczel hat trick. Aegaleo rebounded from its 4-1 defeat last week and took all three points from Apollon at Kalamaria, thanks to an own goal by Giorgos Koltsis. Elsewhere, Xanthi shared a goalless draw with Ergotelis; Larissa saw off Atromitos 2-1, while two of the newly promoted clubs, Aris and Kerkyra, finished 0-0. Later yesterday Olympiakos was to make the short trip to Nea Smyrni to play Panionios.
