College ace McNamara signs with Olympiakos

SYRACUSE, New York (AP) – Former Syracuse University guard Gerry McNamara has signed a one-year contract to play for Olympiakos. McNamara had longer offers from several other international teams, but chose Olympiakos because a one-year deal will give him more flexibility with the NBA, said his agent, Bill Neff. The Olympiakos roster also features former Boston College and Ohio State guard Scoonie Penn and Ryan Stack, a center from South Carolina. McNamara ended his four-year career at Syracuse as the school’s career leader in 3-point field goals made, free-throw percentage, and minutes played. He is also one of only six players in the school’s history to score 2,000 points. McNamara led Syracuse in assists in each of his four seasons. As a senior, McNamara, a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, was Big East tournament MVP after leading the Orangemen to their second straight conference title.
