Thanou plans her return

Sprinter Katerina Thanou, banned by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for two years, along with fellow sprinter Costas Kenteris, for evading drug testing, is training for her comeback. The ban expires in mid-December and both Kenteris and Thanou can, if they choose, take part in the indoor season that starts in late January. Next year Kenteris will be 34 and Thanou 32, normally past their prime. Nevertheless, Thanou, at least, is raring to go. «I’m doing some serious training, not just to keep fit. If I wanted something like that, I would join a gym or play tennis,» she told Kathimerini in the midst of a training session at the Aghios Kosmas indoor arena. Kenteris and Thanou were medals favorites at the Athens Olympics. On the eve of the Games, they checked into a hospital claiming to have been victims of a motorcycle accident and withdrew from competition.
