Aris goes down against CSKA
Aris basketball club, back in the continent’s premier club-level competition after 14 years, was defeated by CSKA Moscow last night, 83-68, in a Group C game played in Moscow. The Thessaloniki club, which opened its Euroleague campaign last week with a win over Turkish club Fenerbahce, trailed throughout last night’s game, the visiting side’s main weakness being poor defensive play. Leading Greece international Theodoros Papaloukas, a star player for the Russian club, was among CSKA Moscow’s top scorers with 13 points. Later last night, Olympiakos was due to meet Climamio Bologna in Italy, in a Group A game. Greek champion Panathinaikos, a three-time European champion, hosts Cibona Zagreb tonight in a Group B game. In ULEB Cup action yesterday, AEK was defeated by Spanish club Gran Canaria, from the Canary Islands, with a 63-57 score. PAOK lost at home to Red Star Belgrade, 78-68.
