Panathinaikos stumbles again

Despite being the Euroleague’s only undefeated club until two weeks ago, Panathinaikos basketball club suffered its second consecutive defeat last night, this time against visiting Partizan Belgrade in Athens with a 93-78 score. The Athens club went into the game having secured Group B’s top spot and a place in the competition’s second stage – reserved for the top five teams of the competition’s three eight-team groups and the sixth-placed team with the best record. Panathinaikos coach Zeljko Obradovic was up against his old club, where he served both as player and coach. For Partizan Belgrade, the win was crucial to the team’s chances for a berth in the next round. The Belgrade team went into the encounter as one of four teams locked in Group B’s fourth place with 5-7 records. One round of first-stage play remains.
