Relegation-threatened Xanthi makes season’s third change in coaching
Xanthi has sacked its recently appointed coach Savvas Koffidis, the relegation-threatened top-tier soccer club said yesterday. It was the club’s third coaching change and Koffidis’s second team this season. Koffidis was hired for the team’s coaching position a little over two months ago as the replacement for Takis Lemonis, who abruptly resigned to take over at front-runner Olympiakos. Koffidis began the season at Irakis, but parted ways with his former playing club after Iraklis failed to repeat last year’s solid showing that led to the UEFA Cup. Xanthi lies 12th in the 16-team Super League, five points above the relegation zone. Nikos Kechagias, a former Xanthi player, has been appointed caretaker coach.
