Playoff battles in the works for soccer league
Local soccer club bosses are considering introducing playoff games to the Super League that would determine berths for European club-level competition, as well as the fates of promotion and relegation battles. Team bosses, who convened for a Super League general meeting yesterday, agreed to vote on a proposed plan at an extraordinary meeting on June 14. According to the plan, Super League clubs that end between second and fifth at the end of home-and-away play, will vie for a Champions League berth as well as places in the UEFA and Intertoto Cups. Officials are also thinking of starting playoff competition between the Super League’s third-last team and the second division’s third-placed team for either survival or promotion.
