Better news for Fotsis ahead of Eurobasket

Antonis Fotsis is likely to be included on Greece’s Eurobasket 2007 squad despite injuring his hand. The Dynamo Moscow forward suffered a suspected fracture in Greece’s final game at the Acropolis Tournament in Athens against Slovenia last week. But new scans have shown that the injury to Fotsis’s thumb is not as serious as first thought. Fotsis may be benched in the first few games at the upcoming Eurobasket tournament in Spain, where Greece will defend its European title won in Belgrade two years ago. Fotsis was among Greece’s leading performers at the Acropolis tournament. Greece won all its games, against Italy, Lithuania and Slovenia. He was the top scorer in the victory over Lithuania with 23 points. Real Madrid’s Michalis Pelekanos will be on standby in case Fotsis fails to recover on time. Greece will open the tournament on September 3 against either Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel or FYROM. The trio meets this week for a Eurobasket berth.
