Tsakiri, Sabanis win gold

Natasha Tsakiri (photo) and Leonidas Sabanis won three gold and three silver medals yesterday at the European Weightlifting Championships in Antalya, Turkey. Tsakiri, in the women’s 63-kilogram category, won the snatch with a 105-kilogram effort and came second to Ukraine’s Natalia Skakun in the clean-and-jerk – where she lifted 125 kilos to her rival’s world-record 135 – and in the total (230 vs 240 kilos). In the men’s 62-kilogram category, Sabanis won gold in the snatch, with 140 kilos, and the total, with 305 kilos. He came second in the clean-and-jerk, lifting 165 kilos. Four more Greek athletes, three of them women, will compete today.
