AEK’s perfect record ended

Super League front-runner AEK dropped its first points this season, losing 2-1 at home to struggling Thessaloniki visitor Iraklis in a seventh-round game last night. AEK conceded its first goal of the season in the ninth minute of play when Brazilian midfielder Emerson scored for Iraklis. Striker Nikos Lymberopoulos leveled in the 28th minute but another Brazilian, Rodrigo, headed in a free kick eight minutes from time for his side’s 2-1 away win. AEK, which squandered scoring chances throughout the game, now leads challenger Panathinaikos, a 4-0 winner at Levadiakos yesterday, by just two points. Panathinaikos hosts AEK in the next round. On Saturday, Olympiakos rebounded for a 2-1 home win over PAOK. Olympiakos lies three points behind leader AEK. In the round’s other games, it was: Atromitos Peristeri-OFI, 1-0; Aris-Veria, 1-0; Apollon Kalamaria-Asteras Tripoli, 2-2; Larissa-Xanthi, 0-0; Ergotelis-Panionios, 1-1.
