Weightlifters add five medals

ANTALYA – Two more Greek athletes, Giorgos Tzelilis and Maria Tatsi, added five further medals late on Thursday to the national weightlifting team’s growing tally at the European Weightlifting Championships being held here. Competing in the men’s 69-kilogram category, Tzelilis, who was looking to improve upon his poor recent performances, attained his objectives here with two silver medals, one for a 182.5-kilo lift in the clean-and-jerk, the other for 332.5 kilos overall. He also won bronze in the snatch with a 150-kilo lift. Tatsi captured two bronze medals in the women’s 69-kilogram category, lifting 122.5 kilos in the clean-and-jerk and 212.5 kilos overall. These were her first ever medals in a major international competition. «I was nervous early on but managed to get over it during the clean-and-jerk,» remarked Tatsi.
