PAO nears top spot after win over archrival
Panathinaikos has all but sealed top spot in the Greek volleyball league’s regular season following a 3-1 home victory against archrival Olympiakos last night. Olympiakos began the game strongly to win the opening set 26-24. The hosts won the second set 25-20. Play was interrupted when a red card was shown to Olympiakos coach Sotiris Drikos for protesting. Play was also delayed by objects tossed onto the court by Panathinaikos fans. The home team won the third set 25-23 after leading 21-16 and the fourth with a 25-22 score. The win takes Panathinaikos five points clear of second-placed Iraklis. Four rounds of competition remain before the playoffs.
